Before the exchange

Use the points that fit the kind of exchange you have arranged.

  • Confirm what is being exchanged and the condition or scope each person expects.
  • Agree the time, place and handover details directly with the other person.
  • For an in-person meeting, choose a suitable public place and tell someone you trust your plan.
  • Avoid sharing account passwords, payment security codes or more personal information than needed.

At handover

  • Take time to check the item or confirm the service or skill being exchanged.
  • Raise any difference from what you discussed before completing the handover.
  • If the plan no longer feels right, pause and decide what to do next.

For a digital exchange

  • Confirm what will be sent, how it will be shared and when.
  • Take care with unfamiliar links or files, and do not share login details or one-time codes.
